Using Write-N-Cite

What could be easier than clicking a button to cite references while you write your paper?

Write-N-Cite allows you to cite references from your RefWorks account with just a few clicks. With Write-N-Cite you can choose from thousands of bibliography styles and watch as it instantly formats your in-text citations, footnotes and bibliography.


1) Write-N-Cite can be found on CedarNet.

Windows 10 campus computers:

  • Click on the desktop icon for "CedarNet"
  • Click on the Library folder, and then ProQuest 4.4 (Write-N-Cite) (if prompted, let it install)

Windows 7 campus computers:

  • Click on the Start button, then All Programs, and then CedarNet.
  • Click on the Library folder, and then ProQuest 4.4 (Write-N-Cite) (if prompted, let it install)

Are you off-campus?

  • Log on to RefWorks, and then go to Tools, then Write-N-Cite.
  • Download the 32-bit version for Word and then install it

2) Once the install for Write-N-Cite is complete, open Microsoft Word. Click on the 'ProQuest' or 'RefWorks' tab at the top of the screen and then click Log In.

  • If you're using an on-campus computer, enter in your RefWorks username and password and click the Log In button

3) If you're off-campus, log on to RefWorks (if not already), and then go to Tools, then Write-N-Cite.

Copy the code in the box under "How do I log into Write-N-Cite 4 using my institution credentials?"

4) Return to your Microsoft Word screen and click on the Use authorization code link. You can then paste the copied code into the box that's provided, and then click Log In:

Now you're ready to use Write-N-Cite. Continue on to Writing with Write-N-Cite
