AMA Style Quick Guide

Dissertations & Theses (3.13.4)

Thesis & Dissertation Citations should include the following:

  • Author's surnames and initials
  • Title of thesis/dissertation
  • Indicate whether the resources is a master's thesis or dissertation
  • The university/institution (for master's theses ONLY - include location)
  • Year of completion or publication date
  • Access date if used online

Examples:

  1. Neel, ST. A Cost-Minimization and Policy Analysis Comparing Immediate Sequential Cataract Surgery and Delayed Sequential Cataract Surgery From Payer, Patient, Physician, and Surgical Facility Perspectives in the United States. Master's thesis. London School of Economics and Political Science; 2013.

Reports (3.13.2 & 3.15.5)

Reports Published by departments or agencies of a government should include:

  • Name of Author, if given
  • Title of bulletin
  • Name of issuing bureau, agency, department, or other governmental division ("department should be abbreviated as "Dept.")
  • Publication date
  • Page numbers (if specified) 
  • Publication number (if any)
  • Series number (if given)
  • Online access date (if applicable)
  • Web address (if applicable)

Patents (3.13.7)

Examples:
