Check if Your Textbooks are On Reserve

Two ways to find our if your textbooks are on reserve:

If you have difficulty searching, please visit the Library Service Desk. We're happy to help you!

Click on the tabs below for step-by-step searching instructions:

1. If you know the textbook's title, type it into the CU BOOKS search bar on the library website and hit enter.

(Search only the main title, not the subtitle, to get more accurate results, ie. search None Like Him instead of None Like Him: 10 Ways God Is Different From Us).

For more precision, do an Advanced Search by clicking the button below the search bar.

Change your search to a TITLE search using the dropdown, type in the title, and hit Submit.

2. Locate the book you're looking for in the search results.

3. Look at the book's LOCATION to see if there is a copy on reserve (it will say RESERVE-MAIN DESK) if it's on reserve.

(In this example, there is also a second copy of None Like Him in the library's main collection which can be checked out.)

1. In the Instructor Search Portal, type your professor's name and hit submit.

If you only searched their last name, you might need to choose which professor in the next screen.

2. Once you've identified your professor, pick which course you want to search for textbooks:

If you don't recognize the course codes, click on each link. Or view your class schedule in myCU.

3. Next, you'll see a record listing your professor's names, the course code/name, and all the books on reserve for that selected class.

For example, Social Movements has 2 books on reserve: Letters to a Birmingham Jail and Woman Suffrage & Politics

1. In the Course Search Portal, type your course code or course name and hit submit.

2. You'll see a record listing your professors' names, course code/name, and all the books on reserve:

What if My Textbook is Not on Reserve?

  • Search OhioLINK and request the textbook if there are available copies
    • Keep in mind, getting books through OhioLINK does not guarantee you access to the book for the whole semester. Other students might request the book while it is checked out to you.  If that happens, you will not be able to renew the book and should return it by its due date to avoid late fines.
  • Check the CU Bookstore website to explore their rental & buying options and outside vendors
  • Suggest a purchase. Fill out the New Materials Request form to request that the CU Library purchases a copy of the textbook. (Please mention that you would like the book on reserve in the Additional Comments field.)
